I have one trapdoor spider right now. Not sure if I really want to deal with some of the other true spiders...they are soooooo fast

Even more...

Hi,

next to the creepies mentioned in the poll, i keep lynx spiders, fishing spiders and brazilian wandering spiders, too.

Hope to still bulk up the collection, though. :D

Greetings,

Stefan

I have 4 P. audax(jumping spiders)...It took me months to determine the species since they had red spots instead of white, but it seems that when they reach maturity, or at least sub adulthood, they get their white spots.........

I also have 1 female L. mactans.

Next on my list (very soon hopefully) is a trapdoor spider. I am almost completely uneducated about these spiders though, except that they have a fairly "hot" bite. I also have heard that some of them don't actually make trap doors, and I really want one that does.......like that video with the black one taggin a mealworm.:D

I currently have a few Gorgrella sp, plenty of Lycosa and Hogna, Lactrodectus, Cupiennius coccineus, and am expecting some Phoneutria nigriventor spiderlings later this week.

So Phoneutria has finally made it into the US hobby? Brilliant!:D

Oh, and I currently have Agelenopsis, Cheiracanthium, Dolomedes, and one unidentified (immature?) Theridiid.

heh if I can actually get these guys past third instar I'll try breeding. Hopefully a handful of us in the US will have CB Phoneutria in the future.

Good luck with those! From a few buddies around here that are right now raising some, came the first bad news some days ago. Mortality is slowly beginning to take it´s toll, right now it´s somewhere between 33% and 50%, which is still a quite good rate to my opinion (and experience). Past sacs produced mortality-rates up to 99%...

Where can I get true spiders in the US? I'm interested in ones with a 3+ inch legspan.

I'm hoping to culture some phiddipus sp. this summer. Can phiddies be kept in groups? I've read conflicting reports.

I imagine that it's only natural to lose some in the process of raising spiderlings. But your right. 33-50% is actually quite good. I'm going to try to keep these much like Avicularia in the fact that they are in large vials with coffee filter ventilation. Call it an experiment but I'd like to see if they do well with a well ventilated environment with high ambient ground moisture. Maybe you could shed a little light on some good sources to read up on the natural habits of early instar Phoneutria Stefan.

At the moment, my only true spider is a wolf spiderling that I caught while raking leaves. I do have another wolf spider on the way in a recently made order. I may try to keep some jumpers next.
