If I am correct with my guess, yes they do have some poison sacs at the base of the spines. Not enough to really hurt hurt a human, but I'd imagine a bird trying to eat it would suffer great effects.
I got nailed by a stinging one down in Florida once and it hurt! Also seen a toad grab one and spit it out quickly then grabbed his tongue with fore feet and hop away on back legs, lol.
