Hey The Spider House, what theraposa species is good for beginners in the genus?
I wouldn't recommend any of the 3 Theraphosa as a beginner spider.
Mainly as they do require a bit more specific care needs with higher humidity and good ventilation plus with the T blondi in particular, the urticating hairs. All 3 can also be d3fensive sometime to the point of aggressive.
Once you have reached the point where you are capable to give this species a good life, then the T stirmi is usually the most readily available and cheapest (in my experience a bit more tolerant if conditions not spot on as well).
There are some simple ways to ID the 3 species.
T stirmi: no hairs on the patella (knee) joint and generally a lighter caramel colour. Pink feet as slings.
T blondi: hairs on the patella and longer hairs on the back end of the abdomen. More of chocolate colour. Brown feet as slings
T apophysis: Generally more hairs than both T stirmi and T vlondi and the abdomen has longer hairs all over the abdomen. Darker Brown than the blondi which also looks to have more red to it. Pink feet running in to next leg segment, black body and generally more slender looking as slings.
Example of colours and features described from some of my AF Theraphosa (apophysis at top, blondi in the middle, stirmi at bottom)
That was exactly why I did the experiment Wanted to see for myself. There is a spy cam in that enclosure so it captures everything she does. It's really interesting to watch what they get up to in the dead of the nightOh man that is hilarious. Just so you know you just broke a myth. Putting ping pong balls in a T's enclosure for them to play with was a laughing joke on the people that did it.
Well looks like you proved T's do interact with them. You're the first one I've read and seen a video from proving they do, .
