Hi!

I bought these two as Parabuthus transvaalicus, but I belive they are Androctonus bicolor. Anyone have a idea on what they could be?

Niklas,

These are definitely not Androctonus bicolor, or any Androctonus sp. for that matter. To me they look like Parabuthus transvaalicus.

Cheers.

Are you sure about that? Here is two pictures of my old transvaalicus.

The pincers are very diffrent on my old specimen compared to my new one. Also the color is diffrent. But my new specimens are much alike my old A. bicolor I have kept.

I know that these two are often mistaken for each other by dealers.

Niklas, the scorpions in the first post appear to be both female whereas the scorpions in the third post are both males.

As Ryan said Definately P. transvaalicus, no doubt about it.

Niklas,
100% P transvaalicus, like Ryan said the last is a male.

Also as a rule of thumb, with few exceptions, androctonus aren't very hairy where as parabuthus is very hair, especially around the vesticle.... almost a dead give away. That and the 'plaps of andro's look much differnt.

I've also found that most Androctonus sp don't have much granulation on their metasoma. Heres a good shot of my A mauritanicus, but bicolor and australis metasoma are much the same as far as granulation.
