It's been awhile and I had a impromptu hiatus from inverts for years while I finished university but recently I just went back home to India and visited the jungles of south india, kerala humid tropical jungle, arguably the greenest place I've seen in my life and dozens of gorgeous theraposa sp. but also in general just such a rich bounty of ecological life, I loved it. saw the most beautiful T.psychadelicus (what a wonderful name), got scared shitless hearing a tiger roar at the nature reserve (900km^2) while on trail. Reignited some of the passion that I almost forgot and I'm moving to a place with limited pesticide exposure so have 5 C.versicolor slings and 3 G.pulchra slings!! All are doing good and a lil pulchra even molted in transit but was fine!!! hope everyone is doing beautifully.

Irminia getting fat! Really curious to see who grow faster, versi or irminia, think most people would say psalmos but maybe versis will surprise me.

My money is on irminia; they grow like weeds.

I got both my irminia and my versi as <1" slings, only two months apart. The versi is maybe 2" stretched out to the max; the irminia is nearly 4".

I'd definitely believe that, raised a handful of P.cambridgei from around ~1inch DLS to around 4-5 inch subadult in under 7 months, in warm LA temps, and food whenever they felt up to it. The versi I raised from 2i to mature male a decade back took about 1 year + change to get there.

I'm hoping with about 4/5 of each species this time there maybe some more overlap in growth rate? Also did the irminia grow more in each subsequent molt or just have more molts in general? Definitely see how irminia are way more leggy and longer while the versicolor are a bit thicker, stockier. Irminia have all been fantastic predators, versi as well but irminia seem to be better killers. Maybe bit bias cause irminia hang around bottom, more access to feeders then versi slings but still.

Here are their molt records. I was wrong about the acquisition dates -- the irminia had a bigger head start than two months -- but you can see that it's still outgrowing the versi.

Psalmopoeus irminia: acquired on 6/23/2018 at 0.75"
  • 8/24/2018
  • 10/14/2018: 1.5"
  • 11/26/2018: 2"
  • 1/26/2019: 2.5"
  • 5/1/2019: 3"
  • 8/3/2019: 3.75"
  • 1/31/2020

Caribena versicolor: acquired on 8/31/2019 at 0.75"
  • 9/12/2019: 1"
  • 10/28/2019
  • 1/18/2020

Oh man that is some beautiful data, I appreciate it! Am now inspired to keep detailed molt records so I can track growth and other biometry better :)
That irminia grew very fast! What are ambient temps at your location?
I will keep this thread posted on molt frequency and other updates.

Also my 2nd G.pulchra sling, Velvet decided to molt last night! Attached a pic of the lil lady with her midnight booty as a bonus :) IMG_20200712_170902.jpg

I don't measure temperature, but I condition the space for my comfort, and I would estimate that is in the upper 60s.

Upper 60s huh? I'm in the low 90s easy right now for summer where I moved so I'm sure that'll boost metabolism and growth rate. Will keep the molt records for sure. My last little pulchra molted today too! Getting some phormictopus, 2 genics and 2 CUTE little B.albiceps by Tuesday as well :) definitely need to slow down on purchasing (wallet starting to ache) but I could not let the phormictopus slip out of my grasp!

It's hot outside (consistently in the 90s with high humidity), but indoor temperatures are what counts.

Absolutely! Most of the time in the day expect the suns zenith we don't run an AC so I think the temp gets close to 90 pretty easy.... especially when outside is 105° like today!

All my versicolor but 1 has molted. Both my GBBs have molted and gotten their adult colors to an extent! Both my P.sazamai molted as well :) all of the irminia have molted and my god they have gained much more size than the versicolors! So long and leggy :)

The P.pulcher I picked up is absolutely gorgeous and took a mealworm, 20 minutes after unpacking, same with the B.bohemei and T.violaceous. Only one to refuse was the H.sericae (blue holothele!).

The phormictopus are amazing and EAT every dang day almost (feed smaller mealworms to get multiple feedings). One of my G.pulchra might be in premolt again (in just a month and some change!). Have attached photo of pulcher, she is such a little cutie <3 IMG_20200731_132533.jpg
