Just wondering if this would be possible in the future.

I'm not entirely familiar with what you are referring to, but when it comes to additional features, we are often limited by our forum host. We use XenForo - if they don't support it, then neither do we. That is the short answer.

I know I'm a little late in responding to this, sorry. What do you mean by support? Just the ability to upload .webp files to the gallery?
The main problem with this is that AFAIK, iOS and Safari do not support the file type yet which pretty much mean anyone on an apple device and anyone on a browser that doesn't support .webp won't be able to view the images.
In addition XF software is not creating thumbnails for .webp images as it's not officially supported yet by them.
In short, at this time, I'm not sure that I will enable the ability to upload .webp files. Once it's across all platforms and has native support in XenForo for all functionality, I'll revisit the issue.
