Anyone have any super voice reactive ones? This one comes out of the tube almost always when called, but it's the first time I got it to actually take food, or come out with the door open even. A little slow at first, sorry about that and the background noise. I paused for about 20 seconds and kept calling it, afraid it wasn't going to happen, hit record again when I saw toes...

I personally think this is a coincidence. Tarantulas (to my knowledge) do not have ears or any audio receptor organs so it’s not like they can “hear you”. What I think is happening instead is the T is sensing a change in air pressure as the cage lid/door was open, and especially the sound waves from your voice could be acting as vibrations along the tarantulas hairs.

The REAL impressive thing is that H. Mac really waltzed out without any real hesitation after hearing you! My friend has two and they’re the most reclusive T’s I’ve ever seen. Jokes aside, still an interesting incident

Yeah it's basically the buzzing I think, thinks it's an insect, at least at first. By now there may be some pavlovian conditioning because I don't tease it. If I call it out, I have food. This one is always out, I'm afraid it's male and close to mature too, don't have a good molt on it.

Interesting.. was genuinely unaware if or that tarantulas had the cognitive function to utilize and understand patterns like that.

Hoping your’s is a girl of course, but whatever it is it is one darn brave Maculata:rofl:

Another reason for small meals too I guess, more interactions. If there is any intended or non-intended conditioning, it should work better/faster with more frequent interactions. There have been some studies showing they can learn, but i think it's obvious enough, they remember complex tunnel systems that change, and these people were testing with a simple left-right choice and air puffs lol. Hard stuff to test though.

lol the vid is real you can believe that much at least with surety. And it's hopefully normal behavior I wish I could do it again now but that was last night lol.
I’ve got them to move around by playing music before but I’ve never even attempted to call a spider out from hiding or at all period. Op deserves a metal or trophy 🏆 for being the spider whisperer.

Interesting for sure, it's an odd object, they will never in nature find anything round, light and solid. Eggsac is the only thing round, interesting thought...

I'm almost always listening to something when doing tarantula maintenance, always with headphones on. Every now and then I'll sing along, very softly, to various songs and hit a random note that send the closest dozen Ts scurrying, either away from me or towards me. Not a particularly loud, high, or low note, just a random note that - literally - resonates with them in some way. It always makes me feel like some sort of spider whisperer despite scaring one half into a sprint and making the other half believe I might be something edible lol.

I agree with @gabrieldezzi the tarantula can’t hear, it’s that they sense a difference in the air as you move your face closer and talk to them or when you open the lid.

Lets see now

This video is an excellent video of how NOT to feed these wild animals.

1. You don’t have any data to support your claim- there’s oodles of sounds one would have to play to see what vibration was preferred if any at all

2. A door left wide open with a fast species - nothing could wrong there, not ever🙄

3. Feeding with tongs, and the T ready to leap out- nothing could ever go wrong, why nothing at all 🙄🙄🙄

Like we’ve never heard of any T leaving its home ever in such situations 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

Again, this video is an excellent video of how NOT to feed this wild animal.

1. I didn't make any claim.
3. Yes, perhaps it could have jumped out.

In point of fact you wrote “Anyone have any super voice reactive ones?”, that’s a claim.

The fact is no one has a clue if that T is responding to the vibrations of your voice or not.

In fact I’ve observed IDENTICAL behavior of my H mac eons ago, and other Ts too without any voice.

All I observed is bad husbandry here, and a coincidence.

I say voice because it has done it several times, whenever I'm over there talking to it or any spider near it, and voice because I use voice to get it to come up out of the tube often. Vibrations of my voice is exactly what it's responding to. I'm sure it would respond to all sorts of things just as well...

Time to experiment- maybe your voice feels like crickets to it

It could have jumped right on my nose and bit me from there probably, and thought I was a roach. I thought about things in hindsight. Still think it was cool vid to get.
