Hi,
Some pics of vinegaroons found in Guyana.
Sorry bad pics. On the first pic, female is on the left, male on the right.
Cheers,
Eric

Hi Eric,

Very interesting.
May I ask how you determine the sex in Vinegaroons? I know very little about them but I think they are interesting animals to say the least.

Hi,
This photo was put some times ago on the forum (I'm very sorry but I don't remember who is the author and I didn't find the thread). It shows well the difference between male (left) and female (right) genital organs.
Cheers,
Eric

I envy you!

according to:

Rowland, J . M ., and J . A . L . Cooke. 1973. Systematics of the arachnid order Uropygida (=Thelyphonida) . J . Arachnol. 1 :55-71 .

Only Thelyphonellus amazonicus (Butler), 1872 is mentioned as native to Fr. Guyana.

Genus Thelyphonellus Pocock, 1894 .
Diagnosis—Tarsal segments of first leg of female unmodified, similar to male ;
patellar apophysis of pedipalp of male unmodified, similar to female ; abdominal
sternites II and III unmodified ; ommatoids absent ; keel absent .
Have they mated?

This paper can be downloaded in the Journal of Arachonology page

Locally? Where are you from? I have been lucky enough to purchase 3 of them over the last few years but have found very little about their natural habitat and would like to learn more about them. I am a biology teacher and they are probably the favorite invert in my classroom because they are so easy to handle. Thanks for any help you can provide, Cheri

I Steven,
Yes, but not the complete process...I was tired and it was too long for me
But I suppose they mated well.

Eric
