While on the hunt for a very loud cricket in the house, we found the offender, a black Field Cricket, on the front step of the house just outside the doorway.
As we soon discovered, in his noisy midst lurked a rather large predator...one little nudge, and the noise-maker met his quieted fate.
It's one of the largest I've seen in a while, but there used to be "The Queen" as I called her, in an old shed in the woods. There are molts larger than this specimen, although I do believe The Queen has now passed on to the great web in the sky, I haven't seen her in her window of the shed for a year now.
