I have a Nikon D5000, and I have to agree they're great and easy to use.

Too easy. My partner had been using the camera to experiment. Turned out the grainyness in that pic was from some weird setting she had put in. (Half hour spent learning to hate the owners manual to fix.)
What I can't figure out is battery life. Nikon did some sort of quantum leap. With our old Fuji Finepix I was spending $30-40 a month on batteries. Should have been clued by the old Fuji film that turned everything slightly green. Anyway, the Nikon goes for weeks of just sitting around then can take over 1000 shots at 24 meg pixels and the battery never goes below half.

I can attest to that. I've only had the battery die once and that was after sitting for at least a year and then taking a couple hundred pictures.
