Hey! I think that my A. geniculata is making the webbing to be used for an eggsac. The webbing is in the form of a bowl made between the glass of the terrerrium and a log I have in there for her. I have never seen this amount of webbing out of her. The only time, actually that she ever does any kind of noticible webbing is when she is making a molting pad. But there is way more webbing that that and she really shouldn't be anywhere near ready for a molt. Keep your fingers crossed!!!

Wow, she is going at it fast. When I first posted this thread, all I had was a web bowl. Now I damn near have a web balloon. Sound like the beginnings of an eggsac?

Leave her alone as much as you can cause she is getting ready to lay. She should seal it off, make the sack, and later today or tomorrow she will probably open it up and either come out with it or at least be visible.

Hope all goes well with it for ya.

Would it be a good idea for me to put a sheet or something over the cage?

How long should I leave the eggsac with her once she produces it?

Might be a good idea to cover the top with plastic to keep it humid as well as wetting down the soil on the far side from her. You don't however want the water to touch the sack and you don't want to disturb her so be careful.

As to how long to leave them depends on your preference. Some folks leave em full term while some yank em. If you are going to take them 30 days is usually the eggs with legs point and they wont have to be rotated in the incubator. If taken sooner give them at least 10 days or more as it is believed that it takes that long for the sperm to soak in well. Which explains the low hatch rate if pulled early as in the case of my Chacos.

Jon,
WOOHOO!!! I'm amazed, I thought it would take months before she laid. She must be in great physical condition. Congratulations and thank you, you deserve a lot of credit.

I don't know about that. She looks like she needs to have a meeting with Craig AND Atkins! :D

Anyways, she still hasn't finished ther coccoon. Right now it is still a bowl/unfinished balloon. She just sits there. Every once in a while, whe adds a little bit more webbing.

I've got my fingers crossed.

Jon

p.s. You deserve a ton of credit for sending your spider out to a perfect stranger. I guess the guys are pretty much doomed anyways. But still, I read threads about how people get screwed on their breeding loans.

OK, woke up this morning and momma genic has completely sealed herself off in her egg laying web.

I just dug out my tarantula keepers guide. It recommends that if the eggsac is to be taken out, it should be done immediately, as the eggs dessicate quickly.

@Phillip, I did pour about a quart of water into the enclosure. Don't worry, I am using a ten gallon aquarium fille 2/3 the way up with peat. All that water was absorbed. Anyways, I don't normally keep track of my humidity. Should I be using a hydrometer in this case. If so, what is the ideal humidity for a genic with an eggsac?

Ok, question. Let's just assume that everything turns out fine and dandy, and I get 1 or 2 thousand little itty bitty genics. Of course, I send 1/2 to Ultimate Instar. But what do I do with the other half. I intend on doing a contest for some of them. And I am going to send some to Tony, he sent me 15 L. parahybanas. But I will still have a ton left. And I don't inted on spending my live running back and forth between home and the post office. Do I sell them en masse to tarantula dealers? If so, what should I charge for them, enmasse?

Jon

I would like to acquire A. jeurinicola, A. geroldi, A. minitrix, Grammostola actaeon, L. klugi, and M. mesomelas and definately would be willing to trade.
