Hi all,
There's a t, at my local petshop, I'm wanting. (keep in mind, this is the self same petshop where I got my first pulchra, who was 3 inches at the time, for 30.00.)

This t is labeled true zebra. I don't have a pic, I'm sorry.
* dusky blackish
* VERY obvious zebra striping on the legs
* reddish hairs on the abdomen

Is this a seemani? Or, perhaps a L. cristatus or, a geniculata?

Sorry for asking for an id this way..

Thanks..
Peace,
Gillian

hmmm to my knowledge the Male Aphonopelma Seemanni sometimes have the 'reddish hairs' on the abdomen... But going from your description I'd go with the 'pink zebra beauty' or Eupalaestrus Campestratus

There's a distinct difference between A.seemanni and the other two you suggested though

I've seen Haplopelma Albostriatum classed as a 'true zebra' too.

If you could take note on these it'd help a lot:
*Markings around the carapace
*Size
*Texture of the hair i.e. bristles, furry, smooth etc,
*Colour of the striping, white, yellow etc
*Urticating hairs?
*Temprmant of spiders (this isn't a very good one thoguh, but may 'sway things')
*Housing of the spider, i.e. deep burrow

Also check through these:

http://www.birdspiders.com/archive/3/0035.htm A genic
http://www.birdspiders.com/archive/1/0123.htm E camp'
http://www.birdspiders.com/archive/1/0047.htm H albostriatum

Hope this helps!

Sounds like an A.seemanni to me, and they've been around longer than most of the other "Zebras" that usually come to mind. As for the other mentioned Ts, they have a white band at their leg joints and are not really truly zebra striped.

I've included a picture of a sling A.geniculata so you can see where distinctive coloration will be. As you can see it does show up pretty early in life, it just gets darker and stripes whiter. Just make him mostly black with a bright red rump for the L. cristatus look

And a new picture of my PZB, these have more color and less distinctive stripes than A.seemanni, or at least the than the black color form A.seemanni IMO (when I find my batter charger I'll take a picture of one of my Zebras and post it)

Aslo, check out the little tummy. If it has salmon-colored fuzz on the tummy, it's probably an a. seemani. (It looks like angora!) Purrty!
