Hello!

How deep is your substrate? I have had 2 of them but black. One hase made around 15cm deem tunel and the other only few cm deep. They are 4cm legspan.

Your trapdoor is cool.

From those pictures it doesn't look like you have a lot of substrate in there. How much is actually in there? I have a trapdoor spider that is a little bigger than a quarter and it has created a 6+ inch deep burrow. I think a trap door spider that large would need ALOT of substrate to burrow in.

Nice looking spider though! (although it isn't a tarantula...)

These are really neat. I keep one group in tall plexi containers with lots of ventilation and they went right to work on that tunnel. Another group is kept in similarly sized containers just a little ventilation on the sides rather than top. The second group is visible nearly all the time; I guess they figure they've already got a burrow established and just web about. They're still eating quite will, I guess the downfall with this arrangement is trying to not lose my fingers everytime I open to mantain.
By the way Strachs beautiful Red :D

My spiders

Hello all, i'm newbie here, and was watching the incredibly big forum you've made. That's awesome, I've been trying to look for people who really knew what they were talking about for over 2 years, and till now i find u!!!!! :worship:
I am so happy honest., Where are you all guys from?
Right now a have a small collection, anyone can view if you'd like:

:D
I'm off to buy trapdoor spiders, i've been looking for them for a long time now and finally i found someone who is selling a blacktrapdoor and a golden leg one. What can you tell me about this species? He's calling them Gorgyrella sp.

And also do they burrow and actually made a trapdoor tunnel???
Thanks a bunch, i'm over from Mexico, so it's difficult for me to actually get any type of spider... though , i'm off for san antonio in november for the reptile expo, i was told i can also find neat spiders and tarantulas, what can you all tell me about that?
Thanks again, and feel free to email me: girl_yes@yahoo.com :}

p.d. mmm i've been looking for the scientific name of a tarnatula i've got, if you get on my photo page, its name is unidentified 3, showing there, when i purchased it on a pet store it came as a goliath, though, i don't really think it's a goliath, and, she's a burrower, hardly ever comes out of her cavern. If anyone can help me i'd be really happy thanks! ;P

How long does it take for a trapdoor spider to make a burrow? I just got one and its been sitting in the corner of its encloser for almost a week. I even made a makshift burrow to get her started and she just decided to come back out and sit in her corner...Its worrying me because I thought that trapdoor spiders made tunnels with trapdoors... :wall:

Pretty sure it's L Parahybana, how is the temperment? I recommend you post the unidentified in the Tarantula questions forum, though, as not as many people read the other arachnid forums.

Also, you should check for some of the certified arachnodealers at the show in the for sale forum, as they have huge variety you can't find in pet stores. For example www.swiftinverts.com has the P metallica for sale, and Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens which you probably won't see in pet stores. I can't garuntee any will be there though.

As for trapdoors, try the search function for Gorgyrella

What kind of substrate are you using? It's it moist all the way through or just wet ontop? They are very picky about where they burrow, in the wild they will search until they find a suitable spot, in your spider's case, they don't have a lot of options, so if they don't like your substrate, they simply won't burrow.

I used damp peat moss for my trap door. Took maybe 3 days for it to burrow.

Mine burrowed within a day of getting to me although it may ba a fanatic burrower since it made a burrow complete with trapdoor in the mail on the way to me! I'm not sure what the average wait time is but my roommate had one that he sold a few days after I got mine. It had just started burrowing when he sold it and it was here for a few weeks. My advice is be patient and see what happens
