my dad's finally found a home for the tortoise we've been trying to give away. however, the guy's in North Carolia iirc. neither of us know exactly how to ship a vert. naturally, the box'd have to be padded, tightly sealed and have the "fragile" and "this side up" signs, but nothing beyond that.

nevermind, my dad (and hopefully i) is going to rendez-vous with the guy's friend who'll be in the city for a while.

it was sold as a "madagascar hingeback" but i know that's just a phony petstore name.

it's that we wanted to give it a home that was some type of reserve and not a store or a hobbyist (regardles of skill or knowledge).

Hmmm...I wonder if its the place I know. Good for you! I totally agree wholeheartedly on that one. Do you know what it really was? Have any pics?

Well, thats def. a hingeback. I've never seen a hingback like that though, its beatiful. Are you sure its not what the pet store said??

a fine example of how most petshop workers will say anything to sell you an animal.

True, but if you look at the link I sent their common names are not so far off from what they told you, at least they said hingeback LOL, I've seen sulcactas posing as box turtles, THATS a person that will be in for a surprise.
