Thanks! Shes actually not the devil incarnate like most Tokays....I'm going to work with her to be a bit more handleable though....how cool would a giant, friendly Tokay be? lol

with or without fingers? {D

That would be awesome to be able to hold something so pretty.

I visited the old PetCo I used to work at and they started carrying Tokays again. I teased the new employees a little bit and asked if I could hold them. The terrified looks I got were hilarious. Apparently the two individuals would lunge out of the cage when opened lol {D

When I had first started working there, they had Tokays too. Everyone was afraid to do anything involving these guys. They wouldn't even approach the cage without gloves. I just stuck my hands during cage maintenance. As long as I didn't mess with them, they were fine. They all pretty much ignored me

its a pity that tokays are so aggressive... with their size and coloring, they'd be awesome pets to be able to handle... good luck if you can get your girl tamed, she's gorgeous!

I moonlight at Petco and I find that Tokays are the easiest reptiles to box up for someone, IMO. Instead of chasing it around the cage, cornering it only to have it do a slick fake out, block a near escape and hopefully come out victorious in the end, with Tokays you simply put your hand over, they attack and latch on to it, and you retract your hand with a Tokay gecko attached like a charm dangling from a charm bracelet. Easy!

Bravo, DavidBeard. You are a much braver repti-keeper than I. :worship:

They have a reputation of biting hard and not letting go. I have heard stories of people holding them under water to get them to let go. Supposedly, captive bred Tokays are slightly less menacing.

I really want a female Tokay. I don't have to handle my animals to enjoy them haha. I think they are awesome critters.

That is one beautiful Tokay Mr. Beard.
Was it WC or CB?
Have you bred them yet?
I have the feeling that their bad manners can be bred out with repeated CB generations.

Yeah, I don't have to handle my animals either....I'm of the school of thought that handling arachnids for enjoyment is pointless. I just want to get the Tokay used to human interaction in order to cause her less stress when doing maintenance and whatnot in the long term.

This one was imported as a young animal and acclimated by a friend of mine who breeds them. He had a MASSIVE adult female that was as calm as any Leopard Gecko I have seen.....talk about an impressive animal....she was the size of a Leachianus and twice as pretty!

CB Tokays can be tamed pretty easily...once they get past their initial fear of being eaten that all young herps go through.

I have a trio of CBB tokays and they are hands down one of my favorite geckos to keep even though I keep a bunch of really high end animals (Uroplatus & Rhacodactylus) the tokays are a favorite.

My male is about 11 inches long, looks like a bulldog and is puppy tame...he's up there in bulk with some of my adult leachianus.

One thing you shouldn't underestimate is the power and potential of a tokay bite. I know a very serious and experienced zookeeper that suffered a significant amount of nerve damage from a today bite in his hand. Tokays not only have incredible strength in their jaws but their teeth have small serrations on the back edge (almost like a shark) so they can potentially deliver a pretty serious bite which shouldn't be taken lightly. I mean, they aren't big monitors or anything that you need to take serious caution with but I think you should also not underestimate the potential.

Good luck with your tokays...simply awesome animals!

Here's a question for you keepers: Do they actually make noises?
I can tell when the females have just laid an egg or a baby has hatched because the male does a series of long "To-Kay" calls several times a night....
