As of today, my B. albopilosum male Cyrano is three years past his ultimate (maturing) molt and two past his post-ultimate molt.
He attributes his longevity to clean living and a diet heavy in pinkie mice ;)

That's great, Joy. Maybe you'll be really lucky and get a post-post-ultimate molt :)

That pic is too cute! Is he really posing with that or is it Photoshop magic?

mmmdonuts,

No sperms-webs past post-ultimate molt since males at that age inevitably lose the pedipalps, which we know to be the heart of their sexual activity.

congrats joy ;)

Your guy's famous. I've heard stories about him.
Bless his little tarantula heart. He's the man!
...and he likes chocolate cake.

Joy,
Thats great!
I hope to have the same luck with my A. geniculata male 'Erik'.
I'm definately going to keep him well fed, and may give the pinkie mice a try.
Thanks for sharing!

Actually, he did manage to come through with one palp, but the embolus is very mangled. He made sperm webs quite often for the first year after his molt, and would invariably get his embolus tangled up in them. I would as invariably have to trim him loose with nail scissors (we have a very intimate relationship, obviously!). But I haven't seen any webs out of him in the past year, so I believe perhaps he's past all that--unless he really DOES manage a post-post ultimate molt. If I'm not mistaken, Martin has (or had) a Poke that did that and currently holds the male longevity record of about 3 1/2 years.

I might add that even those post-ult males without any palps at all still make sperm webs (see attached pic). It's what you might call unwarranted optimism under the circumstances ;)

Oh, yes, and Cyrano really is posing with the cake in the picture--no Photoshop necessary!
