cool link, but here is what is says under a pic of a P regalis:

"Indian Ornamental Tarantula
The Indian ornamental tarantula lives in the trees of India in the Monsoon forests. The venom of this tarantual is not very poisonous, but can be fatal to people."

Maybe I'm not awake yet, but did that sentance just totally contradict itself??!!

Venom doesn't kill people. Spiders kill people.

Yeah, that sentence was a little bizarre. Perhaps in light of the current controversy on pokie venom, they chose to cover both sides. ;)

Cheers,
Dave

The statement was semi-accurate. P. regalis aren't poisonous, you can eat them and they taste great! High in protein, low in fat.

However, they are venomous, and if you are allergic to the venom, you can die.

If you are not allergic to the venom, you are still in for some pain and suffering (days, weeks, and yes, even months). It is a nasty venom. Don't give Indian Ornamentals a chance to bite you, the risk is too great, and the reward is being able to say you didn't get bit!

Many hobbiest have them...less would if they understood the risk of what the venom could do IMO.

They are fast, and they can nail you. It just takes one time when they do the unexpected, and you get taken by surprise. Please be extra careful!

There is a poke bite report by Darrin Vernier in the new ATS Forum magazine. The description of the swelling, purple coloring of the flesh and inflammed greenish veins along with the hours of pain and immobility of the affected limb is enough to instill caution in the most eager enthusiast to want a Pokie, IMHO.
