She is supposed to arrive at a nearby Fedex location for pickup tomorrow morning. Psalmopoeus irminia. Female, 5". I'm aware of their speed and attitude, and look forward to seeing it in person.

I bought this Zoo-Med enclosure and wanted to know if it would be ok as this is my first arboreal. It came with the log and plant. If need be I can remove both later and replace with cork bark, wasn't sure if it mattered or not. I also can replace the screen lid if need be, though I thought I had heard those didn't matter too much for arboreal species.

Edit: I also have yet to add a water dish and will do so before she arrives.

And here are pictures I requested from the seller. With and without flash.

I'd get rid of that half log. Often those are cedar and cedar is poisonous to Ts. Get a slap of cork bark that's tall ebough to go up the wall of the tank.

Actually it looks a little small for my taste. Would prefer something else as a hide. But generally this will work.

Funny that they sell enclosures with tarantulas in mind, and include a cedar log...did not think of that, thanks. Is it toxic enough to them that I need to replace the coconut fiber it was buried in? Or is that just paranoia lol.

Other than that looks fine? Size is fine? Amount of substrate is fine?

I was hoping that since they use the sides, not just the bottom, that the amount of space would be ok...if need be I will start looking for larger ones soon.

I'd add some more substrate and either put the hide in the corner or swap it out for a good sized cork tube, you've got the right idea with the plant being around mid-level though, maybe throw in a bit of sphagnum moss as well.

Here's what I use for my juvenile P. cambridgei (the sub is damp because it kept dumping sub in the water dish when it burrowed under the cork tube which caused it to wick out).

The size of the enclosure is fine, the only thing I would change is the cedar, get a long piece of cork slab angled from the centre of the enclosure at an incline towards the top - then your enclosure will be perfect for the irminia, try to place the fake foliage near the middle of the enclosure (glue gun it in place), they like cover, as they are quite reclusive.

Is that the "bugarium" from zoomed?
I asked because I had just emailed zoomed asking them what it was made of. I just now heard back form customer service. Jennifer from Zoo Med Laboratories, Inc responded to my contact form question, and said that the wood in the Bugarium is made from Fir Tree.

For what that's worth.

I was going to say that those are commonly made from pine (they're sold here as "Habba Huts" or something like that), it won't harm the T but they mould very easily.

Heres my take on those cork tubes...they look great, and ts take well to them....but once they do....you might as well just have a pet cork tube, cause often ts just dont leave them.

That wood would actually be fine, just rotate it and lean it against the back...but not at too steep of an angle as it will want to get under it.

Pine is actually terrible for spiders, depending on how the wood was treated it may contain very harmful oils...not worth the risk if you ask me.

That's a nice looking specimen, these can be very defensive so just a heads up when you rehouse it. I would definitely make some changes in that setup, get rid of the crappy petco hide and throw in a nice piece of cork bark.

Next step is to fill in a lot more substrate, these will often create a "web burrow" that will extend a few inches down into the sub. All three of my specimens setup shop near the ground level, with some webbing stretching out towards the top.
Heres my take on those cork tubes...they look great, and ts take well to them....but once they do....you might as well just have a pet cork tube, cause often ts just dont leave them.
I haven't had that issue, many of my pokies have them and they're still out regularly. It's a very useful hide when doing maintenance too, as the spider almost immediately retreats and you can work around the enclosure freely.

Got her home today! She is lovely and feisty. I went and got some cork bark and added a little more sub. Two pieces of cork bark providing lots of places to web but not so closed up that itll be hidden like a cork tube would do. I also got a freebie P. irminia sling which I did not expect, but am excited for regardless! Any tips for the little one would be appreciated, it is the smallest T I have... Ive housed her in the vial the large female was shipped in. Filled 1/3 with sub and added some plastic plant and sprayed the top of the sub a bit.

Little dry. I like mine at least a little damper.

As for the baby. I'd rehouse into a 16oz deli cup. They grow fast and will make a large hide. Prekilled will help a lot

How moist do you keep a P. irminia sling enclosure?

Just slightly dampen a portion of the sub, simple. The adult could also use some more moisture, maybe overflow the water dish and sprinkle some water around the enclosure.

Put the sling right into a 32oz deli cup....they're fast and good hunters so they do better with more room versus less...a 16oz deli is also an option. Similar to the adult, lean the wood at an angle that allows for the t to get under it as well as on top of it and surround the base with plant cover.

For the adult, you should lean the wood at less steep angles (as mentioned earlier), this will allow the t to burrow beneath it and set up its dirt curtains around it...also add plants at the ground level around the wood.

Make sure there is a bottle cap or something in there for a water dish as well.

The sling will be very hungry when small and will grow fairly quickly.

Slightly damp and you can let it dry out from time to time.

The Bugarium has a screen top. You may have to alter the lid somehow.
