I don't really check humidity, because I live only a few degrees north of the equator.
The humidity here can get up to 100% some times.
Humidity in the closet the slings are kept is 70%, but it can go up.
I just keep the peat moss moist, and always provide a dish of water.

Are you talking about the patches of hair, or bald spots, on the abdomen in the pic with the big theraphosa?

Yup, patches of hair missing from when they kick those urticating hairs off their abdomens.

Yes, they love to kick hairs.

Its easy to see when they will molt, if the bald spot get darker they will molt in 2 - 3 weaks.


This one is 2.2 years old and have molted 5 times since april 2009
size april 2009: 7 cm(2.8inch) leg span and 2.5cm(1inch) bodylenght
size desember 2010: 17cm(6.7inch) leg span and 6cm(2.4inch) bodylenght
