Hey guys :)

Alright, let's go back in the days, long before you had dozens or hundreds of inverts under your care, when you first got interested in Tarantulas:

1) What was the first scientific Tarantula name you ever learnt ?
2) What was the first tarantula you ever saw in real life (no photos, nor videos) ?
3) And then, for the sake of comparison, what was the first T you ever got for yourself ?

For me it's :
1) Grammostola rosea (checking articles about beginner friendly species)
2) A Lasiodora parahybana at a pet exhibition
3) And finally my first T was a Brachypelma albopilosum

Cheers ;)

I'm very much at the start of my tarantula keeping journey still, but figured I could respond anyway.

1. Grammostola rosea for me too, my high school had one.
2. My dad kept a lot of snakes and some other reptiles before I was born, and my parents allegedly brought me to an expo when I was really young. I got to look at T's, but I don't remember what species. Earliest I remember is once again G. rosea.
3. Brachypelma albopilosum, my first and so far only tarantula!

1. Grammostola pulchra
2. This is a toughie, I can't remember if it was a B. hamorii at like Petland in the mall or a Grammostola rosea/porteri at a Reptile Expo when I was like 5. But that was when I was terrified of spiders so I didn't spend a lot of time looking at it, I'm sure.

1. Probably Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens

2. A Brachypelma, probably a hamorii or smithi, in a zoo type place, when I was a child.

3. Same answer as Q1.

1. Pterinochilus murinus
2. That... is a really good question  I'd say probably at the local ma + pa pet store where my very first T came from... but she was a present for my birthday, so technically...
3. My first T I ever got for myself was a P. murinus named Aidan

1) Can’t be specific on that one. I have been nursed from the beginning by AB, so every tarantula I researched I learned its scientific name. I did not want to be chastised by @Chris LXXIX.

1. Probably Grammostola pulchra. I randomly saw one on Instagram one day and it made me fall in love with Ts.
2. [Editing this part because I remembered something] I saw some Ts at a reptile expo, don’t remember which species but one was on its back and I was sad because I thought it was dead  :D
3. 3/4" G pulchripes and on the same day I also ordered from a different web site a B albiceps sling and got a G albopilosum (Nicaragua) sling as a freebie with it

You sure know what you want ;)
Unusual answer though among all the brachypelmas and grammostolas... How did it turn out with a Poky as first T ?
