Hey guys i was at a pet store earlier today and they had what seemed to be a Brachy?
it had orange knees and a red/orange butt, asked the guy what it was he said it was a "Fire Knee Tarantula"

it didn't seem to be a Fire Leg or Mexican red knee since the butt was a orange red?

i should have taken a pic but i was to busy Googling it but couldn't find info on it.

any body might know what it could have been?

If u do get pics, make sure to get plenty and from different angles. Make sure u get good shots of the front legs cause it can possibly be sexed as a mature male from those.

If it is a male, don't buy it.

edit: now that I'm on my computer I can elaborate

What you want to be looking for is these little hooks on the two front legs (not the pedipalps, the front legs)

Also the ends of their pedipalps are pretty big, some say they look like boxing gloves.

From your description, it sounds like the species you saw was a Brachypelma sp. which will have the hooks and gloves if it's a mature male, so be aware of that.

And like I said, if you can confirm it to be a mature male, don't buy it, unless you want something that will die quickly.

Could it have been B. auratum? The common name is usually "Flame Knee" for that one. Black opisthosoma, but orangish urticating hair covering it.

it wasn't a M.Robustum i had a big fatty female back in the day and she didnt have a orange abdomen is i doubt it was that.
maybe a B. Auratum going into molt? but i doubt it because its hairs were really pretty orange/red.

Ive heard of Hybrids so maybe could at if been one?

it bugs me how Pet stores Hire random ppl to sale there animals they should at least hire ppl with experience with what their selling?
also should know what they are buying and do a background check of some way?

well here is a pic of that Mantis they had in the store that i got from them for cheap :]
it doesn't look to me like a Chinese, maybe a Carolina mantis?
idk i looks like a stick so i thought it looked awesome so i got it lol

That would be nice but it would be rather difficult to find someone that knows a lot about different animals for the wages they offer. But I can say that I've been to many LPS and can always find someone that knows about the dogs, cats, fish, birds and most anything they may be selling. I've even run into a few that know a lot about T's.

Maybe next time you could bring your concerns up with the manager of the store. Even offer to help the staff learn a little more about T's. The worst that can happen is they say "no". The best that can happen is you help educate a few about our hobby and maybe even get a discount ;)
