Hello. My sons little desert blonde T has went through hell the last few days in his life. He found him outside, put him in a tupperware with airholes for a night. Next morning he thought he was dead because he was on his back so he put him outside in the yard. A few days later, the same spider was on the porch walking like he was drunk. He put him in a tupperware again last night and he was getting on his back and then getting on his belly a few times. Got by the water dish a couple times. Now since this morning, he's been on his back like in the picture. Do you think he's going to make it?

The crickets were taken out and now the T is still on his back. Do you think he's going to make it?
Looks like a dying mature male to me . Check the pedipalps .

It is a male tarantula that has either died or in the process of dying. The curling of the legs underneath the body is the give-away. The fact that it is on its back is irrelevant. I would recommend picking up a copy of the book "The Tarantula Keeper's Guide" by Schultz and Schultz for more information on tarantulas in general and how to care for them in captivity before taking in another tarantula so you know what to expect. They are tricky critters to interpret sometimes.

Thank you so much.

Do you think because of the stress?

Mature males only live so long it’s probably near the end . It also might be falling on its back . If it’s not dead already:: better luck on your next t .

It is a male. We know this by the colors. Is that why you are having us check?
No it’s the Short Bulbous pedipalps and tibeal hooks on most males . IMG_4097.jpeg

when males mature they don’t live for very long, which is probably why your t is dying

Here is a list of informative tarantula information if you decide to have a tarantula again or if you want some further reading.

Update. He is still on his back but opening and closing his legs once in a great while. How long does it take them to die?

In death curl , maybe a few hours . Sorry for your loss but mature males just live pretty short 6 months to a few years at best . 3 years was my record .
