substrate question

Hey guys, I just had a quick question on using potting soil for substrate. Im going to be getting a Goliath bird eater in the near future and will be keeping her in a 55g aquarium. I was wondering if potting soil would work as a good substrate. I wanted to check and see if it was a safe substrate first.

I am merely a beginner, but I have been told that potting soil is a decent substrate. =3

You don't want to use the Timberline top soil, there's a good bit of grit & sand in there, fairly abrasive. And it compacts as lot. It'll still take multiple bags to adequately filled a 55gal. It's cheap for a reason.

Can't say on the Earthgro, although it doesn't appear to be organic, always have to watch out for additives & pesticides.

Lowe's has 2-3cu. ft. (huge bags that will definitely accomplish what you need) of straight peat moss for around $10 +/-.
