Stupid Questions about genus/species

I have been collecting for years, but I've never really gotten into the scientific names, so I need help.

Here is an example:

I have a poecilotheria regalis.
I have a poecilotheria formosa.

QUESTIONS:
1.Is the poecilotheria a genus or family identification?
2.Is the regalis/formosa a species name?

I realize these are silly questions for a series collector, but I've just never gotten into the scientific names. I just call them by their common names.

HELP!!!!!

Fell free to elaborate. I'll print out your responses so I can remember them.

Thanks (in advance).

Please ignore my spelling errors, etc.

Thanks, but what does Genus mean? Is that like "family"?

And what does Species mean?

Sorry for the stupid questions, but this is the only way I can learn.

Thanks for the help, folks.

If anyone else wants to elaborate, please do. It really does confuse me.

It's just a scientific name assignment that shows evolutionary classifications (for every living thing). Here's the Mexican Redknee:

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Sub-Phylum:Chelicerata
Class: Arachnida
Order: Aranea
Suborder: Ophisthothelae
Infraorder: Mygalomorphae
Family: Theraphosidae
Subfamily: Theraphosinae
Genus: Brachypelma
Species: smithi (italicized)

Really, thanks to everyone that responded.

I'll probably still call my "critters" by their common names. It's easier. But you have all helped me, and I appreciate that.

SEND ME YOUR SPARE POKEYS! I love those rascals.

skadiwolf,
My wife would move out if I brought a snake home, and I'm kind of fond of her and don't want her to leave.

No reptiles for me!
