Is there a reason why where I live striped fishing spiders average larger in size than dark fishing spiders?

I've been catching both species over the past couple years, and scriptus are larger I've yet to find a dark fishing spider push 4" I know they do and I know they supposedly are the larger species.

Anyone else witness this?

Maybe you've misidentified one of them, there are a couple similar looking Dolomedes aswell as a couple other similar looking genera

Hello I don't get mixed up often with spiders especially these kind LOL.

My theory could be with Dolomedes scriptus range into Canada maybe with the cooler temps they mature slower / causing more molts?

Seems like they often grow very large up there. I've tried high temps extra food variety and all it does is matures them real fast causing ghost sacs.

I know with dolomedes tenebrosus tests were done on when female ate the males, the babies were born larger stronger healthier etc mom also produced more offspring.

The biggest difference between scriptus and tenebrosus is that scriptus prefers flowing streams and rivers while tenebrosus prefer lakes. If you find scriptus near a river or stream that has a lot of prey or some other factor that allows them to grow larger and there isn't as much or as high-quality habitat for tenebrosus that may explain the disparity you're seeing.

I can agree with you on that to a certain point although in the past when I kept say Tenebrosus feeding and variety of prey still didn't change size growth etc / make any difference at least drastically.

Oh well I'm just excited to get back out when warms up and see what I can find:)

See I'm not crazy lol
Or course not LOL :) I new they were out there that thing is easily 6 inches or more most people would disagree but the picture I posted and the link to the video proves it.Those are scriptus not Tenebrosus.I just don't understand how some grow to those sizes.

I've tried the warm temps lots of food does absolutely nothing just makes them grow faster.

They must be born larger as larger babies etc or actually cooler temps giving them longer life, otherwise complete mystery yet to me.
