Stick insects

I don't know much about these insects. The USDA issue has brought them to my attention. Does anybody know of a good link that has pictures of native US species? I saw some big ones crossing the road at night in one spot in S. TX and I'm trying to figure out what sp they were. I saw them about 3 years ago but I think I would recognize one if I saw a pic.

The USDA has outlawed "phasmids."
Stick insects are phasmids.
Are NATIVE stick insects "illegal"..?

Will children who find one outside be "busted"?
Should school "show and tell" sessions practice
defensive self censorship...before children are
actually allowed to "show" or "tell" anything?

How will nature preserves remain intact...or will they???

hmm so would that mean that any native species would be fine and dandy to keep? what about those that are now wild but non native? like all the differant assassin bugs i see lol

So, in short, if you can find a source of native walkingsticks within your state it should be legal to keep them. But I don't think interstate shipping of native species is legal.

I second what dtknow said. As far as I've heard, it's only A-OK if they're native to the state you're keeping them in.
