Found this lil gal/guy on the side of a soccer field yesterday, amongst
the grasses beside a wooded area. May or may not take it back..
It doesn't climb.. I have it in a 7"x7"x6" enclosure with 1.5" of coco fiber,
moist in one corner and a cork bark slab hide, that it's been using. :)
Thanks in advance.

No idea but it looks like something I have. Do you know if it can run on top of water?

Is there anyway you could take more pictures with better lighting?? It's hard to tell without a clear image, sorry.

It's definitely a female wolf spider, I have a feeling Jsloan would have a good idea of what it could be! Way more specifically than I do anyhow!

If it's really small, I'd say it's probably one of the smaller members, like Pardosa or Trochosa....assuming it's body size is way under an inch. It looks like a small wolfy...but knowing it's size would help!

It's about a little over an inch, and this morning I found what looks like
an egg sac!!!!!
It looks like a small white sac about 1/4" and appears to be attached to the
spider's butt! At least if I can ID I can google..
ok.. so.. its not amaurobius like I thought...
Let me get some more pictures.. be back soon..

I do not know if it can run on water.
Perhaps I can try later, but @ the moment,
(and since I'm almost positive that's an eggsac) I don't want to disturb it.
I'm leaning toward wolf spider with this perfectly spherical eggsac...

Gladicosa sp. (Wolf Spider) ??

Thanks for more pictures! From it's eye pattern, it def. looks like a Wolf Spider. After doing some research, we found what MIGHT be your spider; Gladicosa sp.

This species of Wolf Spider was found on Florida's nature website. The only info we found about this species around New York was located in Boston so there is still a strong possibility. Good Luck!

Thanks... that does look like it.
But I was thinking Pardosa moesta ....
Any thoughts?

Anyway, I guess wait til these are born and set them free again at the park..
hehehe :}

Guess now I can gather more info to make an informed decision,
and give the best care in the meantime.

It's not Pardosa moesta, which is a smaller spider and the stripe down the center of the carapace is less obvious and doesn't extend up between the eyes. Also, Pardosa egg sacs are flattened and shaped more like a pill (Dondale) than a sphere. Here's a picture of P. moesta to compare with yours (BL = 6mm):

Your spider might be a Hogna helluo. Some of the females are on the small side. I found one with an egg sac in Indiana last June, and it was about the same size as yours. Here is some more information, and pictures, on that species: Hogna helluo

I was only there for a week (Indianapolis), but found a lot of interesting spiders in an empty field, under boards, etc. The biggest Latrodectus I've ever seen was on my grandmother's porch in southern Indiana (Washington), where I found it during a visit there about 40 years ago. It was beautiful!!! :)
