Thanks for the advice. You guys know more about them I do. I really don't want to do anything unsafe for my daughter or sparkles. When do you think is a good age to start handling them?

I'd wait until the child is old enough to understand the consequences of holding a tarantula, such as a bite, getting haired or what will happen if the T is thrown or dropped. Not to mention what would happen if a very small child had an allergic reaction to a bit, even though that is VERY unlikely.
I have a friend who's 9 yr old wants to hold a T and I won't let her, keeps her and the T safe.

My two year old likes my T’s as well however she is not to have ANY contact what so ever. I taught her that they are wild animals that can bite. She is never in the room while I’m doing maintenance to the enclosure just in case one gets out. The room where I keep my spiders is always closed. When she is in there watching them through the glass I keep a sharp eye on her. Mind you I am not an overprotective mom she grew up on a horse farm and has had her share of falls and bumps and whatnots.

The urticating hairs alone are a threat if lodged in the eye or nasal cavities surgery is occasionally needed to remove the hair from the eye. A adult knows not to touch there face after handling a T a child does not…. not a chance I’m willing to take with my baby.
You should do some research on there defenses.;)

I agree. I think your daughter is too young to be holding a T. Everyone makes mistakes, and I'm sure you learned from this one. I'm just glad nothing bad happened.

id be afraid of the little girl getting freaked out of the avic climbed up to her neck or even her face, or even what if it bit her. the reaction to that wouldnt be a good one nor would it be a good reaction to the spider considering that it would most likely be thrown to the ground or stomped on. thats just my opinion
