Saw these 2 very nice snakes today, wonder if anyone has an idea on what they may be.

P.S. i did notice that they both have that same white lower jaw, im thinking juvie and adult?

My guess...

The banding and the chin markings on the second one ( granted the water could be making it look different but I doubt it ) makes me think Nerodia sipedon sipedon ( Northern water snake )

The 1st one looks similar and could very well be the same due to the varience in them but it could just as easily not be.

i agree with Phil. at the college i go to they are really abundant in the lake tere. there is some color variation in between specimens. i caught a bunch of babies last year.

I agree with Phil. From your location, the second is likely a Northern water snake. The first is probably a melanistic (black) variation of Northern water snake. If I remember correctly, coloration doesn't really vary depending on age in water snakes.
