I am wondering if this is normal for slings, but my 1.25" pulchra is very skittish and runs every time I open the container or try to handle it. It made a little burrow because I didn't provide a hide yet. The substrate is moist but not swampy and there is always a full water dish. Thank for any advice!

Yes, its quite normal. It doesn't know that you're not there to eat it. Its world shakes and it senses the arrival of a large animal. I'd be skittish too!

As for the substrate, you don't need to keep it moist. Just wet a corner every so often, leaving droplets on the side. It can get moisture that way.

I am letting it dry out. Because of the container it's in, it may take awhile. When I got it the substrate was pretty damp too.
