Just an update of sorts. I posted their birth a while back on a different site, but here's the condensed version of both posts:

Mother was collected before she was noticeably gravid. She had seven young and two slugs several months later, on July 15th 2006. All but three were fed multiple times and then released, along with mom, in an extremely close proximity to where she was initially collected. I hung on to two, a 1.1 group, and a lone female was taken by a 'local institution,' if you will. I'm aware of both light and dark variations, but I never knew they could appear within the same clutch. Very interesting stuff...

First, the Mother (photo by J.J.):

Some of the babies:

Now the brother and sister today, after having both shed 2 or 3 days ago:

And for some size comparison, the same female on July 15th and now on December 12th:

Best regards,
-Matt

Very very nice. They are gorgeous little ones.

The light and dark in the same clutch is quite interesting.

A friend's puff adder gave birth 2 weeks ago, and there was also a fair difference in colouring.

Dang those are sweet! I didn't know they occured in this part of Kansas. I really like the color variation as well, and that light colored one is gorgeous! I might like to have one of these beauties some day in my collection...

Great post, Matt!
