See looks female to me.

My first thought was also YES I'll have some, but seriously, it looks like a female to me.

Wanting sex from an internet forum? There's a new level of desperation ;) ;P

Yup looks female to me aswell. Maybe someone should compile a challenge; guess male or female? I know I'd certainly appreciate it. Infact if none of you want to make one, how about I start on it tomorow?

Nah, never that desperate, but the thread title gets you thinking.

I wouldn't sex a T of that size with a photo that out of focus, but that's just me. The sclerotization people say they're seeing could just be an artifact of the lack of focus and there's nothing else definitively male or female visible.

I'm not wanting to squash the levity, but if people want a T sexed visually, may I suggest getting an in-focus photo.

I just thought I would give it a try. I guess its just me, that If I don't want to make a comment, I don't make one of any kind.

Don't take this the wrong way.

What I'm getting at is that you posting those photos isn't helping you because you will get responses even if you post an out of focus shot of your mother in law and say it's a bad pic of your H. lividum. Sometimes even a bad pic is enough, but, really, if you know enough to know if a bad pic is enough, you probably wouldn't need to be be posting pics in the first place.

So, you post pics that cannot be used to sex reliably and you get a bunch of responses. Are they right? Maybe; heck, they've got a 50/50 chance. What if they're wrong? Well, you not only didn't get the right answer, but you've now just confused your understanding of how to sex visually as well as anyone who reads this thread and doesn't fully understand what to look for, either.

My feeling is that the only responsible comment with those photos is what I said: I can't sex reliably from such a bad pic for a T that size and anyone who says otherwise is the one doing the disservice.

Sure, if I had to guess, I'd say female on account of the shape of the region anterior the epigastric furrow, but that is only a guess and without a better photo I wouldn't be betting a quarter on that sexing.

Code,
Lighten up bro.
We're just trying to have a little fun around here, and learn from each other.
It looks, from what I see, to be a female. Thats just me.
I don't think anyone is trying to do a disservice by making a guess on the T's sex.
If he would have said, The fate of the world, is in the balance of you guys being right on sexing this T. I would have asked for a better pic.

The nadkicker strikes again..;P

I've looked at several molts and diagrams over the years and been told which diagram is male and which is fem, but I can rarely see on the molt what is so readily shown in a diagrams.

Can anyone with a pic editing software draw some arrows on the better of those two pics (or better yet, some clearer pics) to show what to look for in making the determination please?

I've also read / been told that what to look for can vary between species and be highly visible in one species whereas barely noticable in another, and that age of the spider can make yet more difference...
