Ok so I was at the park today and looking for bugs (as one does) and found an incredible black widow with a huge, perfectly round egg sack. Took a few pics, they’re not the best. ANYWAY. On the other side of the park I found what I thought to be a non-viable reptile egg. We have tons of reptiles in the SW, and holding it up to my phone flashlight looked like there may be some solid remains in there!! I put it in a 4oz cup, and carry on with my day.
Got home and grabbed some tools to carefully open this thing, the anticipation is hardly bearable, I’m betting there’s a skeleton of a baby snake that never made it or something, yes! Finally it’s open! What was in there? BLACK WIDOWS
So now I have baby black widows in a deflated egg sac, only one has crawled out so far. Still in the 4oz cup with pin pricked holes. Panicking; I’m a seasoned spider mom but this surprise delivery has me nervous. Where do I go from here? I’ve never kept widows of any sort

SORRY FOR BLOG POST — tldr; I accidentally took home a black widow egg sack and I don’t know what to do next please help

Let them cannibalize for a while until you have a desirable amount left. They will eat fruit flies or very small mealworms. Widow slings are extremely easy to raise.

you could put them outside if you dont want them. theyre native if you found em out there.

if you want to raise them, its very similar to most other spiders, but you have to remember they need to make webs, and need their food in those webs. if food comes out they may or may not be able to get it. they molt fast as heck. mine got to i5 in like a month :x
i would reccomend to hot glu in a few twigs so they can build webs.

If you want to keep them I'd recommend you use a deli container like the ones in my post that Wolfram linked. If you don't want to keep them you can wait until they emerge from the sac and then take them back to the park.
