Scorpion Birthing Question

My emperor scorpion is currently giving birth, I have counted 4 babies on her back right now and I am expecting more. She was out of her burrow and ate 3 crickets yesterday. I was surprised to see her giving birth today because I have read that they typically refuse food and hide in their burrow for several days before giving birth. There is a cricket leg laying out on the substrate that is left over from her feeding yesterday and part of a cricket head is near the entrance of her burrow. What should I do? Leave them in and risk getting mites and/or mold, or take them out and risk disturbing her? Also, I just checked the humidity gauge in the tank and it’s at 82%. Should I add a bit of water to the substrate to raise the humidity, or just leave her alone for the time being and hope that everything goes well?

snatch the meat if you can do it without disturbing her, then leave her alone.

do you think the meat is likely to crap up in the next 24-48 hours? and how bad does meat go in your setups

you have a warm and wet environment for things to grow on, remember

and i mean, if she's standing over the meat... i'd probably wait for her to shift herself. but ifthey are reasonably far apart, just snake it and be done with it

also, if the leg was ripped off at the like, shoulder joint and isn't torn up it probably won't go bad as fast as the half a head.

mites aren't really an issue. that's probably not enough food to let them do an actual bloom. and basically, you already got them or don't (and almost certainly do if that is petstore crickets). they are no big deal unless their numbers get up

Thanks for the advice. I was able to grab the leg but the head has disapeared into her burrow so im just gonna let it be for now. I just changed the substrate on monday so I doubt there is enough food in there for there to be a mite bloom. Ill let you know what happens.

I really excited to see how many scorplings she has once they finally come out of the burrow!!!!

yup, that sounds like you did good.

honestly, half a cricket head isn't that big... it ~probably won't "do" anything

plus, once the mom is done popping out babies the risk level goes down a bit for her eating them so if it does go yucky it will be easier to deal with

oh, and congrats on the babies :) there needs to be way more captive hatched emps in the hobby!
