I have always had arachnophobia but recenntly moved to Oklahoma and for whatever reason have grown to like and respect the wolf spiders here. Rather than kkilling them. I now catch and release. There are so many questions I have about them, mainly the maternal instinct factor. Questions such as whether a female will take on orphaned offspring, if she never has had babies or if she is carrying babies, etc. Is there any good adult level literature, papers, or books available on scientific studies and experiments to this nature relating specifically to the wolf spider?

adult females will carry orphaned spiderlings, though i'm not sure how often this would occur in the wild.

i'm not sure about too much lycosid-specific material - a more general, and great, read is rainer foelix's biology of spiders. it will teach you a lot and leave you with even more questions!

as for just the lycosids, you can dig through lots and lots of scientific literature via the world spider catalog -

and bugguide is fun to search around in, once you figure out how to navigate the site (pro-tip: register an account and stay logged in)

to be honest, wolf spiders are usually easy to care for and you could easily experiment yourself. i've bred multiple species, it's quite fun!
