I just ordered my first S. Heros. It should take a week or so to get it, as it might be sent next monday. I'm quite curious to what sub species of heros it might be. It's a baby, that's all I'm certain of. It only cost me 12 euros (about $16) plus shipping, but I shared that shipping with a friend as we ordered one T. apophysis each as well. Usually adult heros are offered at 40-50 euros, so this one is probably about 2" long.

I don't know why I'm excited though, I find Scolos to be quite boring. I've sold 4-5 and have 3 at the moment. I even sold the most beatiful I had, a "vanuatu" colored like polished wood with perfect lines. Gorgeous. Guess I like the way Heros is built, the space between the legs and the impressive terminals.

Anyone got a tip for a setup that displays the animal better without causing extra stress? Suntape and stuff on the tank is not to be considered.

Excellent news on the S heros, would love one myself, dont see any for sale here in Europe though, curious as to where you got yours from, nice to see you also managed to get a T apophysis too, I have 5 slings/juvs here, fantastic spiders, so quick growing.

As to displaying the pedes, I found if I used a peat based compost & really compressed it down hard ensuring it was moist, then the pedes were quite content not to burrow too much & stayed on the surface 90% of the time.

At that size probably do fine in a large deli cup. What I find so exciting about S heros is you can recreate a desert mesa with a proper amount of sand/peat mixture as substrate. One can create a gorgeous terrarium for a absolutely gorgeous centipede, that's the one of the many unique advantages of owning a giant desert centipede.

Your salvation lies within www.terraristik.com you can click on english if german is too hard. Now go, and find what you want =)

The only thing I can't find is a female adult Blondi for my male that costs under 85 euros without shipping. It's too fkn much!

My Heros arrived, and I'm pretty sure it's a Scolopendra heros castaneiceps. It's absolutely tiny (3 cm?), and seems to be quite nervous and tries to hide all the time. I hope I don't stress it too bad by using slightly moist san/peat and a small piece of bark that it doesn't seem to use =/

I took some pics but they turned out horrendous.

Hmm...I have no idea how many I have atm. I recently sold about 200 dubias and about 450-500 S. tartara. There's still a bazillion. I wonder how many tartara I would have if I hadn't dropped the f*ckn box on the floor a couple of months ago

Anyhoo, 50 tarantellas, scorps, mantis's and pedes can't keep the numbers down.

I don't know what happened, but the...uhm..antennas has been damaged somehow. Half is missing on one side. I thought I read that they don't regrow them? The little pling is only 2 months old, or just above.

they do seem to regrow them, iirc

i damaged a few centipedes like that... they lead with their antenna and so it is usually the first/easiest thing to get shut in the little cup lids
