Hello, this is my first post in the section :)
I've kept tarantulas for a while, and was thinking of buying a scorpion from a local pet shop I frequently go to.
They have 3 scorpions called "Rusty Red Tail Scorpion," and they are about half an inch big.
Does anyone have any idea what their scientific name is? and if so, any info about them would be great.
Oh by the way I've kept one azn forest scorpion before.
Thank you.

Hmmm, wonder if that'd be another common name for a Babycurus Jacksoni? I've seen them called Red Bark Scorpions, Rusty Thick-Tails, and Red Thick-Tails.

Not 100% sure though, but I'm sure we'll find out before long.

EDIT : Yep, we found out, lol.

then I hope you enjoy my scorpions :D I think you will really like these ones! They are already more than capable of killing an adult cricket at that size.

All parabuthus are generally dubbed thicktails, similarly, androctonus are dubbed fat tails.

I've searched about this scorpion and have decided to get one ASAP!
I've read that they are unpredictable, fast (?), and can climb.
should i use sand or peat as substrate?
is there any other important stuff I should know before I make the purchase?
Thank you again,

moderate to high humidity...
back in the day before i started buying INVERTE-MIX from NEXT YEAR REPTILES,
i put them on a mix of 1/3 sand, 2/3 peat, (with about 2% bentonite by volume--pretty optional, aids water retention and sand cohesion)
additional info: they grow really fast! ;)

cheers! :D

Well it's not really a case of the pet store making up names. You can google Rusty thick tail scorp and find pics of B jacksoni... so it's more a case of the pet store using one of those craptastic commonly accepted names that was given to the species....

edit: this is page one of of a google search http://www.google.com/search?source...2006-40,GGGL:en&q="rusty+thick+tail+scorpion"

Rusty thick tail is the most common name I've heard of B. jacksoni going by.
I have several species of scorp and I'd say the jacksoni are the easiest and fastest growing ones I have.

Haha, that's just the luck I tell ya. I actually recently picked up a Babycurus jacksoni as well. I've had mine for about a week now, little beastie has a heck of an appetite! I'm thinking you'll enjoy yours.

I fed mine the day after I got it. I let it settle into it's new enclosure for 24 hours, then I offered it a few small bugs. It ate 3 of the the first feeding I attempted.
