Rough-Skinned Newt Pictures

So I was at a family reunion this weekend, and found a cute little rough-skinned newt (as well as a few other critters). Thought I'd share the pictures -- click to zoom.

And yes, I told the little kids I was bug-converting to wash your hands after handling one.

Cool, I think I used to see those a lot more in the pet stores in the mid 70's. Salamanders/newts always been interesting to me. I remember when I found my first one ...I ran home with it like I found a bag of gold! I think I was 10 or 11.

yup, i remember them very well too,they were fun to keep.very hardy newts

These guys were staples of my youth and childhood, so it was really exciting to show them to the kids. I hadn't seen any for almost two years -- that was when I went on a night-hike in rainy weather and saw TONS crossing the paths.
