So, I've got a rough green snake, and I've seen on here that they eat crickets and mealworms . . . will they eat roaches? I've tried offering Blatta lateralis nymphs, but he hasn't eaten in the two weeks I've had him and he looks thin (yeah, I know snakes don't eat often, but I'm a nervous parent).

Thanks for any pointers.

That's what I thought, but his eyes are still crystal clear.

Just get him some crickets or mealies and leave him alone. In other words make sure he has some privacy. Check to make sure his temps are okay 80 hot side, 70 cool side. Make sure he has some room to roam and climbing spaces.

Rough green snakes are pretty snakes.

He's got a roach in there, will that do?

Anywho, he's doing better -- he's climbing the vines on his own instead of waiting for me to put him in them.

And they are pretty!

Maybe it doesn't like roaches. Are they the only thing you have offered it? Try some other prey item and see if it eats.

Ok. I'll try offering him a cricket.

That's a beautiful snake.
Thanks! He was an early birthday present from my fiancee. When she asked about names for green scaley things, I thought "Monteverde," 'cause it's an awesome green place in Costa Rica. Since he's from the South I might name him "Cletus" instead. :D
