I am starting a colony of B Dubia, and am curious what I can feed them other than premium dry dog kibble (does it need to be ground up?) with herp vitamins. I have also heard that a piece of apple a week is ok too....anyone else have any suggestions? I do not plan of feeding any of these roaches to any of my spiders. Thanks in advance.

idk much but what iv seen, dry dog/cat food, the ocasional wet food but take it out after a day. Fruits and veggies but take them out after 24 hours. Most feeders eat basicly anything you give them. Just rember if it will molt and what not, take it out after 24hours. For roaches make sure u got a egg carton box in there and they dont need subtrate(so i have heard)

ground up cat food filled with protein. i throw in an apple and leave it for about a week or so a couple times a month. Just watch for mold. most apples stay fresh for quite a while.

I started with a few hundred dubia from davegrimm and now I have a colony of thousands. I feed mine cheap dog food that doesn't have the highest protein amount. I mix it with oats, and any type of rice cereal that doesn't have a sugar coating. I don't grind my dog food because I have found that they are able to eat it just fine the way it is. I also throw in the cheapest prepared salad I can find at the grocery store from time to time. They LOVE salad, and it helps them with moisture. Other than that I just use water gel to keep them hydrated in between salad feedings.

Thanks, everyone, for all the answers. I didn't buy a lot of roaches, only 20, but there are lots of large ones in there. Eventually they will be for my Ts, and hopefully I don't get attached to THEM too.

debs, just try 2 resisit feeding them. from what iv heard 100 is a good start, so if ur gonna start with 20, dont feed any until the colony is atleast roughly 100. But if u can hold out just keep waiting till the colony is strong. feed mealworms/crickets until then xD

I feed all my feeder insects a combo of fresh produce and soaked cat food. Its indoor formula cat food, i soak it till it becomes mush, mix it into a paste and put it in little bowls. Everything seems to love it. Just feed it in small doses so they can finish it before it becomes hard or grows mold.

I started with 40 mixed size B. dubia and now I have about 700-1000. I feed cheap dog food powdered in a food processor and oats. They seem to like oats as a staple and the dogfood as a secondary supplement as the oats run out faster. I occasionally add fresh produce as well.

I have a worm composter and I use this recipe to help make the worms bigger. I also use it for my roaches but I leave out the lime. I will also throw in some veggies about once a week. The roaches really love it and I am always filling up the bowls.

5 parts chicken layer pellets or chick starter
2 parts toasted oat cereal
1 part rice puff cereal
1 part powdered milk

Try feeding them some baby carrots. I throw a few into my small colony every 4-5 days and its like a family event for them, they all come out and devour them in a few hours. Also you should make sure they have a constant supply of water, water crystals work really well.

I started out with about 40 large nymphs 3 months ago, and I'm finally seeing some little babies running around. So just be patient, and before you know it you'll have more than you know what to do with.

carrots

my staple food for my colony is carrots, before i was feeding them with dogfood but switched to carrots because everytime i offer dogfood mites came along, as of now i offer them virtually anything, from carrots, cabbages, sliced bread to plain rice. as of my observation they eat virtually anything, from the moment i toss something down a minute later they go crazy, hopping from every food item to another (seems they wanna taste everything).:?

I started with 50, split colony when i got 150ish, then took another 6 months but i finally have ~700+ so i can feed my ~40 inverts mostly roaches now.

I feed mine dog food and oats ground up, water crystals, and fruits and veggies when I remember. They will finish an apple or banana in 3 days or so.
