i got to thinking, has anyone rescued a snake and instead of keeping it and making it better, but to return it to the people and educating them as to it's care and word will get out how wonderful and knowledgeable you are>? or do you view it as a "should of known how to take care of it to begin with". :?

To start with I want to say Thank You for saving that beautiful baby, on behalf of myself and Austin, Morgaine and B.B, who are my rosy boas. You are wonderful!!!!
As far as returning her to her former owner, I guess that depends. Did she seem concerned about the animal? Did she seem willing to care for it properly? Would she take advice from you on its care?
It is up to you, but before I returned her to the person who let her get in that condition in the first place, I'd made damn sure it wouldn't happen again.

she was crying when she came and got the dollar back from me and no, they didn't ask questions in regards to why it looked the way it did, i couldn't go into their motel room to see the set up, no curiosity of anykind of kind so i think i will feed it for a few months and add up the amount of food and care and see if the amount is too much for them to get it back. I don't know how much they go for, but i don't feel comfortable giving it back, and have to think the other relm. Can they press charges and state i stole it from them? there is no agreement and i never said i would return it if it survived, i was unsure what i had when i got it as it barely moved as it was, im the kind of person to say the hell with it, you should of known something wasn't right and read up on it's care etc. When i asked for the tank they didn't say they had one and wanted to keep it incase it lived or anything, something is funky. I know ppl struggle, but when you can help you should. Will see what comes of it. I have every right to keep it seeing how i have proof i took care of it and spent my time and money to get it better. Arrgghhhhh lol. Just glad i could save it, from what it looks like now.

I think that you are completely right. They neglected the animal (which is abuse). Also, we have no idea how they have their setup, but if I were to assume it would be a terrible one. IMO, you have every right to not give it back.

I've done that with iguanas. This lady had 4 babies in an overcrowded cage. Two were underweight and one of which was severely emaciated (it was the smallest). I rehabilitated them though the small one ended up passing. I told her about ig care and she realized that she probably got in over her head. She let me keep the baby and I adopted it out to a good home.
