I'm totally devastated that my female Usumbara passed away today. She was my favorite and had just molted in April so I decided to mate her with a male I got from MizM. They mated a few times and she was almost certainly gravid. I was expecting the basic eggsack any day. She had stopped feeding about ten days ago and was still getting larger. Well, I noticed her huddled in the corner in a semi-death curl pose and knew immediately that something was wrong. When I removed her, I noticed a large hole in the side of her abdomen with some internals oozing out. I don't have any stones, rocks, or other sharp objects in the tank and the substrate is less than her legspan to the top. I don't understand what happened, but I'm just beside myself. I had to put the empty tank in the garage because I couldn't look at it. I'm considering getting another female, but it just won't be the same.:(

I am really sorry for your loss. Could she have maybe had a parasite or larvae in her or did they just get too wild while mating and she got hurt?

I felt the same way when my original Gypsy passed away. But you will move past it.

Sorry for your loss, especially since she was expecting so soon. It sound like an internal parasite to me, but could have been anything. Why dont you send the body to the errr, cant remember what it's called, for them to do an autopsy?

I am so sorry for your loss. Currently I only have one T, my new baby, who is, of course, my favourite, and I would be devastated if something happened to him.

But I am sure in your care she had a very happy life, with lots of delicious prey and a safe place to call home. I know it's a small comfort to you, but I am sure it was not so small to her.

*hugs*

I'm sorry to hear you lost your female... And it makes matters worse when things just don't make since about ones death. But on a happy note for you; Tigger's ( C.fasciatum male for those asking) been in with Stripz(F) for most of the past week and is still kicking. I'm pretty sure they've gotten down to business, though never when I'm looking in on them.
Maybe there will be soome "grandkids" down the road :D
