Hy!
I am wondering.....I see a lot of Brachypelma .....Brachipelma verdezi,smithi, emilia.....etc
A lot of Acanthoscuria ....Acanthoscuria geniculata, brocklehursti, juruenicola, etc
A lot of Grammostola.....Gramostola rosea, grossa, aureostriata, etc
What makes them what they are, and how is this possible to tell that a tarantula is a Aconthoscuria(for example!) , or ....to put in another way : What makes a Brachypelma - a Brachypelma??

I think it depends on what they look like and where they reside.

to put it bluntly.... genus' are seperated by relatively "large" differences, species share the same characteristics as what defines that particular genus, but have their own specific differences while keeping the genus characteristics.

Read up on taxonomy :) Should help you out

I think there's also molecular differences, which is why only Ts of the same genus can reproduce and even hybridize (though it's not recommended to do so). ;)
