Hi all, I haven't kept any native North American species before. I got Rio (really original name for her huh?) several months ago. She was wild caught - is about 2" and a real sweet heart. My question is do they hibernate or need some sort of special care in the winter?

Not that I've heard of or experienced. The only thing I can tell you is to make sure that there is always a source of water and not to worry if it stops eating for a few months. It's no big deal :)

It's been suggested that a cool down period is helpful for some North Americans when trying to induce them to breed or make eggsacs, but for normal husbandry I think not. As Scott said, they may go off feed, at least that's been the case with my A. chalcodes, A. anax, and several unidentified Aphonopelmas in my collection.
