Ok I bought a pinkie thinking that maybe one of my tarantulas would eat it and the one I thought would for sure, my cobalt wont touch it. If none of them do eat it will it survive if we feed it? Just curious

thnx

Afaik pinkies need to drink from the mothermouse fro about uuhm ... 3 weeks. So you might be able to keep that pinky alive, but i doubt if it will be worth all the trouble.

I've tried it and it did not work:( The little rodent died.
Its difficult to tell if they are drinking properly and they can
end up with milk in their lungs.
I used the boxed milk for kittens.
Good luck with it, you may find yourself in a position where
you CAN'T feed it to one of your T's, you could really get
attached to it.........then you would have another pet
:D
I think it's worth a try:) Just keep it warm and use a
tube to feed it. Most pet stores carry the items you will need.

Ok cool... its my Girlfriend who is the one who is really taking care of it, it survived the night and it is living in the tarantula room where it is 80 - 85 F and its close to the heater. I put it in one of my small critter keepers that isnt being used right now. We have been feeding it with a tiny paintbrush and it sucks the milk off the briscles. I told her not to get too attached because it prob wont survive. But she wont stop trying. I kinda hope it comes through but then well have a mouse :/ anyways thnx for the replies.

How long did you leave it in with the Cobalt? I can't imagine it would ignore it (unless it is way too big) if it came across it at night.

btw, have you done this before??? I tried it once (with a fizzy) and will never do it again. My L parahybana worked on it for approx 24hrs and the oder was, to say the least, strong. OK it stunk. Plus I think it introduced mites into my T cabinet :(

Jeff

btw, You could always by a nice corn snake to get rid of that pinkie :)

well I cant feed it to anything now... its become my girlfriends pet. She would kill me if I fed it to one of the T's. And I dont think i will ever try that again even with the L parahybana that im getting especially with the odor and the fact that you got mites from it. Too much of a hassle.

Either way - it is cool to watch a spider eat a pinky..... I have put the pinkys on a paper towel, with moist to wet bread on it, and put the paper towel in the spider's enclosure.

I've had success keeping a pinky alive for at least 3 days with this method, although it never got eaten :( Either way though, they're only like $1.50.....

My Parahybana wont eat anything else but big rodents :?
I always give her frozen rats (pinkie) and she works on them for 15-20 hours. Fortunately I never experienced oder or mites. But then, mice smells alot worse than rats...

my seemani ate two pinkies in two days. i gave her one and my brock one. the brock ignored it over night. the zebra ate it it in 2 hours. the next day i took the one out of the brock enclosure and it was still alive so i put it in with the zebra. about 10 minutes later she was munching away. only took about another 2 hours. no smell no mites.

I'm the one who is actually taking care of the little guy. Once I saw him all small and wrinkly I just couldn't put him in the freezer....or back in with the Cobalt! Stuart (haha...yes after Stuart Little) is now 8 days old...I was feeding him at first milk diluted with water and a pinch of sugar, but I read around and found that cats milk (which is 98% lactose free) is a much better subsitutue for a mothers milk. I picked up a carton of it at the pet store, it is relatively cheap. I feed him as often as I can during the day and at night, and wipe him down with a warm cloth after he eats...this is necessary as a baby mouse's bowels will not work unless stimulated. Anyways...I'll post again if there are any interesting updates!

Little Stuart died today....I fed him before I left for work in the morning, but since Mark wasn't home to feed him during the day he didn't get a feed this afternoon....I came home from work and got his formula ready for him, but I noticed that our trinidad chevron had molted, so I got caught up in making sure she was ok.....when I got around to feeding Stuey he had passed on. :(
