An oddity. I wanted to skim only salient posts on a thread so I set the irrelevant persons to ignore. The entire thread vanished. Seems if the last person to post in that thread being ignored makes the entire thread go poof. Is this normal?

The entire thread vanished from where? If you are looking at a list of threads, then if the most recent post is by an ignored member, you won't see the thread. You would have to click the "show ignored content" link at the bottom of the listing. Same thing if you are inside a thread and want to see something from an ignored member.

Certain areas, such as forum home will still show the thread listing but it will say "ignored user" for the most recent poster name if it was the most recently updated thread in the forum.

Ah! Show Ignored Content is just a toggle reset when the page is reloaded. Duh. Give me a few more years to come up to speed here.
