Can anyone identify this insect? I believe it’s a queen ant since it’s abdomen and head resembles an ant. However some friends say it can’t be an ant, it’s a beetle. Can someone well versed in entomology identify what this is?

I’ve never seen a blister beetle. It’s an interesting insect. What is it known for?

I've handled a couple oil beetles in the past, they require considerable agitation to start spraying. They parasitize ground nesting bees, which is neat.
