I think if you're looking for a big purple spider you're going to be disappointed. Only the males become bright purple after their final molt into maturity. The females are pretty drab by comparison.

My 5" female is not bright purple, but she's very impressive looking nonetheless (http://arachnoboards.com/threads/olans-spiders.287848/)
And they're so fun to keep because they grow so fast! Mine molted in late October, gaining almost an inch in legspan, and she's about to molt again just over two months later.

That sounds like a great price for a beautiful spider! I have a Pamphobeteus "purple bloom" sp. Ecuador and he's one of my favorites. Sure, the mature males have the most spectactular colors - but they start showing their colors before that. This was mine after he molted last May. He's molted again since then and is even more colorful - at least in the right light - and he's still got a ways to go.
