I'm so happy that all my snakes are eating. two of my boas are still on mice but they get two a week and they both have shedded at least once since this year started and they continue to eat every feeding time i love it.
My rainbow boa is offically going to be on rats from now on because this morning i fed him a small what i think was female rat and he got it down in good time.
something else i noticed was that it wasn't the size of "the widest/biggest part of the snake's body" that some keepers recommend. what this tells me is that since it wasnt that size or smaller and it wasn't too big (obviously it wasn't too big because he got it all the way down within 10 -20 mins and it always takes snakes longer to eat rats than it does mice. and because i think snakes know when a meal is too big for them because they just kill it then leave it dead in the enclosure or they try to swallow it and can barely get a grip on the head).
i'll take pictures of my rainbow boa that ate the rat today, on sunday or something once the food settles so he doesn't get nervous and throw it back up.
From my experience with snakes (which isnt more than 5 yrs) i can say that rainbow boas are definitely a beginner (sp) snake as long as the want to be owner reads up on the proper information and takes care of the snake properly. i say this because the snake only gets 6-8 feet which for a snake isn't big (from my view) especially for a boa.
And they are nippy as babies i was told ( i wouldnt know because i got mine from petco and i dont know if they got it as a REAL baby or a baby after a few weeks old) but i wouldnt know because my rainbow as i just said was from petco so he was handled on a regular basis and he has never nipped me at all unless it was my fault.
But if you think about it, all/most snakes are nippy as babies so that comes with the territory of owning a snake. so imo someone who is mature enough and wants a starter snake they can definitely go for a rainbow boa and skip right over a corn snake. (no offense to corn snake lovers lol, i did have some of these in the past about 4 or so and got bored with them so i gave em away)
