I have tried to control phorid flies in a variety of ways and finally found something that is actually working. The number of phorid flies in my house has greatly decreased and I'm hoping to eliminate them completely. This is the product.
These are basically chemical free glue covered sticks about 10 inches long. I placed them in my T room and in a month have captured almost all the phorid flies and continue to catch any that leave the T and roach enclosures. They are easy to handle because they have plastic holders on the ends and you can lay them on top of tanks without any mess. I purchased mine on Ebay at $5 each. Here you can see a few traps placed on tanks. Excuse the mess, the T room is getting crowded.
I placed one over a slit in my dubia colony and it's catching the phorid flies as they enter or leave the container. You can see some phorid flies stuck to the trap.
And here is a closer view of one of the traps that has captured a large number of phorid flies. I know some people will say the tanks are too moist, but the moisture you see in the photos is actually between the glass of an inner tank and an outer tank. I'm using a water bath to heat a few tanks to 80 degrees so I can keep my house at 67 degrees. I'm doing this just for gravid females. Everything else is kept at room temps. (67 degrees).
